Dog Treats and Biscuits

Gluten is not generally harmful to dogs, as most digest it without difficulty. It is a plant protein found in grains and can be a valid energy source without posing a health risk. Intolerances are extremely rare and limited to specific clinical cases or certain breeds, so there is no need to remove gluten from the diet of a healthy dog. A special diet should be introduced only after a veterinary diagnosis confirms a genuine sensitivity.

Your dog may beg because of hunger, boredom or habit. Try to ignore the behaviour or teach your dog to remain calm during meals. The most effective approach is preventive: feed your dog before your own meal or at the same time as you sit down at the table. Settle it in a corner of the room, preferably on its mat or in its bed, and train it to stay there during family meals.

Extreme excitement around food often comes from a dog’s highly developed sense of smell combined with strong impatience. Practising calm behaviour, for example by asking your dog to sit before putting down the bowl, usually helps manage this excitement.

Treats made with simple, natural ingredients are the best option for your dog. Avoid processed, fatty, sugary and salty foods. Choose a plain piece of meat, cooked vegetables or a small piece of cheese instead of dishes with sauces, cured meats or desserts.
